Steps toward PCI compliance

The following steps are general guidelines to PCI compliance.

Become informed
Review the resources available at the
TransActPOS site, read publications such as "PCI Compliance for Dummies", contact your credit card processor and ask questions to understand what PCI compliance is all about.

For TransActPOS installations which utilize PCCharge Payment Server, the following steps are a guideline to help you in the process of becoming PCI compliant.

If you do not integrate PCCharge Payment Server with your TransActPOS installation and you accept credit or debit cards, you are still required to  become PCI compliant so skip to step 4!

1) Upgrade your installation of PCCharge

Prior to the release of TransActPOS Version3, Build 245, contact PCCharge to upgrade your current support license and upgrade your PCCharge installation to 5.8.1.

You can check your current version of PCCharge Payment Server by selecting Help and then About within the PCCharge application.  Make note of the serial number since this information will be needed when upgrading your PCCharge Payment Server application.

The easiest way to update your PCCharge is by utilizing the VeriFone eStore.  You will be purchasing both a service contract and an upgrade to 5.8.1 from PCCharge.

For sales questions regarding PCCharge, email salesinfo@verifone.com or call 1-800-725-9264.  For technical support questions regarding PCCharge, call 1-877-659-8981.

Note: After upgrading PCCharge payment server, you must change the PCCharge Device indicated within System > Workstation Settings > General to 5.8.  This step can be completed prior to the release of TransActPOS Version 3, Build 245.

2) Order the customer facing interfaces

An integral part of the PCI compliance is the customer interface – this is the device with which the customer presents their credit or debit card – which allows the customer to maintain control of their credit or debit card information.  Additionally, the MX830 provides a secure means of capturing credit card information during a transaction.   Each workstation which accepts credit cards will be required to have a VeriFone MX830 unit.

The VeriFone MX830 device can be purchased by contacting Jim Love at 270-821-0720 Ext 110.

This step can be completed prior to the release of TransActPOS Version 3, Build 245.

3) Update to TransActPOS Version 3 Build 245

Upon the release of TransActPOS Version 3, Build 245, download and update your installation to complete the installation process.  Once this step is completed, your installation of TransActPOS will be PCI compliant but this does not make you a PCI compliant merchant - this is only a step in the process.

4) Complete the PCI compliance process according to requirements outlined by your credit card processor
